The Republic of San Marino has approved the VeChain NFT-based vaccination passport, which is said to be verifiable worldwide.
A small European country with a population of just over 33,000 people announce Approval of “Decree-Law No. 109 of June 16” earlier today, which allows for the issuance of a vaccination passport called a “San Marino Digital Covid Certificate.”
The partnership includes collaboration with DNV – which will provide digital security for the project.
The vaccination passport contains a history of previous infections, negative test results, and also provides a digital vaccination certificate.
A digital vaccination certificate is issued at the request of facilities approved by San Marino health authorities. It is registered on the public blockchain of VeChainThor, by associating a non-fungible token (eNFT) to an individual’s medical history related to Covid.
The certificate contains two QR codes that can be scanned to access the medical history related to the Covid virus.
The first code is compatible with the requirements and standards of the European Union and can be verified by member states and authorized entities.
The second QR can be scanned by “anyone anywhere” outside the European Union and directs users to a web-based application where blockchain-based eNFT certificates can be verified.

“The use of VeChain’s blockchain technology, particularly NFTs, makes it possible to increase confidence in the authenticity of information, reducing the risk of fraud,” said Renato Grotola, Global Director of Growth and Innovation at DNV.
This is not the first time that VeChain has introduced Blockchain-based solutions in response to the global pandemic. Cointelegraph reported on January 6 that Vechain has partnered with the Mediterranean Hospital in Cyprus to store vaccination records on its blockchain.
